STATUTE DETAIL IN THE APP
(NEW JERSEY SHOWN — STATE PACKS RENDER THE SAME)
The rules that are Oklahoma’s own.
Federal cases set the minimum. Oklahoma’s courts have their own answers — and those are the ones that control your stop, your search, your report.
State v. Paul
If you have probable cause to believe a vehicle contains contraband or evidence, the automobile exception generally lets you search it without a warrant. Be ready to articulate the specific facts that gave you probable cause as to that car.

Seabolt v. State
Finish the traffic mission and let them go unless you can name facts — beyond nervousness — that add up to reasonable suspicion of other crime. A ~25-minute stretch built mostly on a fidgety, nervous driver got the drugs suppressed.

State v. Strawn
After the traffic mission is done, returning the driver’s documents can turn the contact into a consensual encounter where you don’t need reasonable suspicion to ask questions — but the State has to prove it was truly consensual, meaning a reasonable person would feel free to leave.

FIELD GUIDES — STEP-BY-STEP FLOWCHARTS
The call, one decision at a time.
DV, juveniles, hospital holds, use of force, traffic — each guide walks the fork in the road with the Oklahoma law and procedure built in, the way an FTO would talk you through it.
Oklahoma paper plates, decoded.
Do NOT run the tag # as a regular plate
OK temp tags CANNOT be run like a license plate. Running the tag # WILL NOT identify the assigned vehicle and MAY produce a false match against an unrelated OK-registered vehicle. Contact the dealership printed on the tag to identify…
Dealer # prefix check
Dealer # must begin with ‘D’ (new car dealer) or ‘UD’ (used car dealer). No other prefix is valid. There is no ‘ND’ prefix despite what some field guides may say — reference document only D and UD.
UD + 5-digit = counterfeit
If dealer # starts with ‘UD’, the number following must be 4 digits. ‘UD’ + 5 digits (e.g., UD30623, UD93574) is the key structural counterfeit indicator, documented on both the Bob Moore family and the ‘Better Counterfeit’ example.

Federal cases that reach every Oklahoma stop.
Pennsylvania v. Mimms (1977)
Ordering the driver out on a lawful stop — what it covers, and what it doesn’t.
Arizona v. Gant (2009)
Once the arrestee is secured, the automatic car search is gone. The two narrow windows that remain.
Riley v. California (2014)
Seizing the phone is one question. Searching its data is another.
Cross the line, keep the reference.
