How we verify
StreetSense is a reference officers act on. Here is how we check what goes into it, and how to tell us when we got something wrong.
What we check
Statutes: the state’s own published code
We check statute text against the state legislature’s own published code, not reseller copies. Each statute in the app carries the date it was last checked against that source.
Case law: the full opinion, not a summary
Before a holding goes into a blog post, we read the full opinion (through CourtListener). A citation that looks right isn’t the same as a holding that says what we claim, so we read the decision itself.
The federal floor, and your state on top of it
U.S. Supreme Court cases set the minimum. Your state’s constitution and statutes can be stricter, and often are, so we say when a federal rule is only the floor.
Audits, and fixes that ship over the air
App content goes through audit rounds. When we find an error, the fix ships to the app over the air, without waiting on an App Store update.
Corrections
If you find an error, email nick@mnsindustriesllc.com with the item (the state and the statute, case or post) and your source. You’ll hear back from the founder. Corrections to the app go out over the air.
What StreetSense isn’t
It’s an educational reference, not legal advice. Your department’s policy and training come first, and when the facts are close, check the current statute and your prosecutor’s guidance.
