A dog sniff of a lawfully stopped car is not a search under art. 14, and here a roughly 25-to-30-minute wait for a canine was upheld as reasonable and proportional — but the longer you hold the motorist, the stronger your articulable suspicion must be.

Commonwealth v. Bradshaw
With probable cause for a serious crime, strong reason to believe the suspect is armed and at home, a real escape risk, and impracticability of getting a warrant, a warrantless arrest under exigent circumstances is lawful — and luring the suspect outside by ruse to arrest him there is permissible.

Irwin v. Town of Ware
If you encounter an obviously intoxicated driver, take action — arrest, protective custody, or otherwise get them off the road. Massachusetts statutes create a special relationship to protect the public from that driver, and negligently letting them drive on can expose the town to liability.
